How we do Credit Card Processing

At Centripetal Software we take great pains to ensure that our customers information is kept secure. This includes data, service login credentials and credit card information. Our services are based on monthly recurring billing which means your credit card information has to be stored somewhere in order for it to be charged each month. We want to be clear and upfront with our customers about how we handle this in a secure way. Centripetal Software uses a company named Braintree Payment Solutions for all of our payment processing and credit card storage. When you enter credit card information into our site, that information is posted directly to Braintree’s secure servers (never touching our servers) and a token is returned to us that allows us to manage your payment account.

As a number of recent, high profile, breaches have demonstrated, compliance does not necessarily equal security. Even companies that spend millions of dollars on security upgrades to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive data get breached. Using Braintree’s Vault, Centripetal Software is able to remotely store all credit card data in a Level 1 PCI DSS Compliant environment, something that would be cost prohibitive to a software startup like us.

The credit card data is stored remotely by replacing the sensitive information with unique tokens. These tokens can be used in the same way as credit cards by Centripetal Software for billing, but are are only valid for the original transaction type and amount that they were set up for and they are useless to criminals. Since credit card data is not present in our databases and never even enters our computing environment, there is nothing to be stolen.

We still retain full control of the payment process using the tokens to update credit card information, generate reports, reconcile and manage single or recurring payments. Braintree’s full suite of products allows us to completely eliminate the handling, processing and storage of credit card data, which greatly increases security of your payment information.
